I am proud to endorse Sarah Umberger for West Virginia House of Delegates!

I have known Sarah for many years as the mother of one of my dearest lifelong friends, and I’ve always admired her character and integrity. She is trustworthy, steadfast, and someone who stands firmly for what is right. I truly believe she will be an excellent Delegate and a strong voice for the people of West Virginia. She has my full support, and I know she will serve with dedication, integrity and heart.

For 42 years, Sarah has been more than a friend to me. We started teaching in Greenbrier County School in the fall of 1985, she was the director of my wedding and she is currently my walking buddy. She has been someone I have trusted, respected and admired! And through all theses years, one thing has remained constant: Sarah’s strong morals, her values, and her genuine concern for other people.

Those qualities are not something you can simply put on a campaign sign. They are built over a lifetime.

Sarah doesn’t need to be reminded why public service matters. She understands when someone walks through the doors of the Capital, they are carrying the hopes, concerns, struggles, and dreams of the people who trusted them with their vote.

This election is about more than choosing a name. It is about choosing character. It is about choosing someone who will remember who sent her to Charleston and why she is there.

I have observed Sarah’s deep commitment to our community and her consistent focus on the issues affecting working families and local residents. She brings a thoughtful, practical approach to public service and demonstrates a clear understanding of the district's needs.

Sarah is a strong advocate for public education and for ensuring state policies reflect the priorities of the people they serve. She approaches these issues with a seriousness and a willingness to listen that are essential for an effective representative.

As a life-long resident of the Greenbrier Valley, and a veteran teacher with over 27 years of service to our community, it is my pleasure to offer my endorsement of Sarah Umberger for West Virginia House of Delegates, District 46.

I have known Sarah for over 40 years, beginning back in the 1980s when she worked with my mom in the Greenbrier County public school system. I remember visiting her and her family intheir drafty farmhouse in Maxwelton, where evidence of her commitment to service for her students and her community could be seen in stacks of books and school supplies, as well as in the overheard discussions between Sarah and my mom on how they could help students achieve more and have a better life.

Over the years, I have been inspired to see Sarah’s unyielding desire to improve the quality of life for the residents of our district. She has been a strong supporter of our schools, participating with fundraising and making sure our students have access to supplies and extra-curricular experiences.

I strongly believe that true leadership is manifested in service. And my experience with Sarah is that she is a public servant to the core. She is kind, honest, hard-working, willing to listen, empathetic, and of strong moral character. When I go to the polls this November, I want to elect leadership that reflects these qualities. I want to elect representatives that have been consistent, positive role models to me, my family, and youth of our community. Sarah is one of these role models.

I was honored to represent this district in the West Virginia House of Delegates from 2018 to 2020, and that time taught me that a representative’s job is more than casting votes in Charleston. It means returning phone calls, attending community events, listening to people even when they disagree with you, and earning their trust through real service. It takes integrity, a strong work ethic, and a real commitment to show up and fight for the people you serve.

The best representatives already have those qualities before they are elected. That’s why I’m proud to support Sarah Umberger for West Virginia House of Delegates, District 46. For over 20 years, I’ve seen Sarah live out those values every day.

Sarah worked for 24 years as a special education teacher, dedicating her career to helping children succeed. Many people know her from her work in education, but I’ve gotten to know her through her service to our community. She sees a need, gets involved, and follows through. That’s simply who she is.

Serving in the Legislature means being present in the district, returning phone calls, showing up at community events, listening to people even when they disagree with you, and earning their trust through real service.

Holding office isn’t the real job. Doing the work is what matters. I’ve served alongside our current delegate, Jeff Campbell, so my support for Sarah comes from firsthand experience. The difference, in my view, isn’t about personalities or political labels; it’s about doing the work.

I was deeply disappointed when our current representative, Delegate Jeff Campbell, voted for House Bill 2014, which took important local decision-making power away from communities on data center developments. Delegate Campbell has also changed party affiliations and has entered office twice by appointment rather than by election. Those are simply the facts.

Greenbrier County deserves a representative who cares more about serving people than just holding the office. Greenbrier County needs a representative who is present in the community, returns calls, listens to people’s concerns, and knows that public office is a responsibility you have to earn every day.

For years I’ve seen Sarah put her time, energy, and heart into this community. She doesn’t ask, “What’s politically convenient?” She asks, “What needs to be done?” I have no doubt she’ll bring that same character, work ethic, and commitment to the House of Delegates.

Holding office is a privilege, but doing the work is the real responsibility. I believe Sarah Umberger understands that difference, and that’s why I’m proud to support her.
